My name is Nate and I am from Iowa.  I have had a Thunderbolt since a week or so after they came out.  Have had issues with ring tones I set for people, when they call there ring tone may play or may not and I can't use one of my own tones for text or other notifications and now for the last update now the phone powers down whenever it feels like it.  I have had enough of the problems and now am looking to switch to a different carrier because no one at Verizon wants to help.  Just found out that it would be almost 600 dollars to cancel our contract, so I am trying to find anyway possible to make this phone work right.  Please if anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated, is anything out there to help or am I doing something wrong or something I don't know.  Please help, any info would be great.

Thank You

Nate

The reboot is a well known issue and is being worked on by VZW and HTC.

As for the ringtones/notifications, I'm not sure what the problem is. If you elaborate, I'm sure we can figure it out.

Also, welcome to the forum.

Hello, Nate. Sucks that you are having a bad time with your new Thunderbolt. I think the majority of us really love our Thunderbolts so hopefully your problem is an anomaly that can be fixed. JPC will have you back on track in no time.

Ok Jcp I will try my best.  I put music on my Thunderbolt (CD's that I have) and set a song for my wife when she calls.  It will play then the next time it will play the default ring tone, which is a song I put onto my phone.  As for the notification tones I downloaded a tone from a website and tried to make it my notification tone by using Ring Droid and it cuts it way short and I can't lengthen it.  Now it has been a bit since I have tried it again, but I used Ring Droid with my other phone (HTC Eris) and it worked fine.  I don't know if this info will help, I hope you can help with some direction.

Thank You

Okay,

For the ringtone: I would suggest resetting it - set her ringtone as the default, save, then re set it as your custom one.

If that doesn't work, I would suggest deleting her contact completely, then re imputting it with your custom ringtone.

For the notification, you should use a song, or sound, that is your own - music, or otherwise. Sometimes others can be corrupt. then use Rongdroid to shorten it to the sound that you want (because notification sounds should only be around 30 seconds).

I hope that helps!

One other word of advice is if you still keep having the issues, do a factory reset. It will wipe the phone but everything on your memory card will be ok... I know its a pain to set it back up but it may be well worth it. This has been known to help the reset issue for alot of people. You could also exchange the phone at verizon, they are aware of this issue.

This should also clear up the custom sounds and notifications. Also if you play a song through  the stock music player and hit menu while its playing, it will bring up a built in ringtone maker where you can make the song into a ringtone and you can choose any part of the song you want and legnth. As JPC said, any notifications or ringtones should be no longer than 30 seconds or the phone may ignore it and use a stock tone.

Let us know how it goes..

Welcome aboard Nate. We would hate to see you go, the phone is really a great phone. The fix for the reboots (I am getting it too!) is supposedly coming soon. Hang in there and try what these experts have to offer on the ringtones. Best of luck and we hope you stay!
