I picked up my Otter Box Commuter today at Srint store. I was in checking on my bill and they had some come in while I was there. Trade my old Body Glove back to them because it was less than 30 days old. I really like this case.

Update on the Defender Case status. As I mentioned previously, I made the decision to pre-order the Defender case from techie warehouse. They had a 10% off coupon code and Free Shipping...so the order out the door is $44.09. I'm a big proponent of Buy Right/Buy Once...meaning I would rather spend a few more dollars to get what I really want, rather than spend less...knowing I wanted something else, and in fact buying the pricier item later down the road...thus spending twice as much. I'll forgive myself for buying the Body Glove case because the Otterbox cases didn't exist at the time... Anyway...I called Otterbox earlier this week to find out if they had any idea of a timeline for the Defender Case release? The rep basically told me that when it's posted on their website that it's available...that's when they'll know. "But it'll be soon..." OK...that answered alot. : Well I did get an email from techie warehouse last night: We are at the top of the list with Otterbox to receive this item as soon as they receive them in stock. Currently we have no ETA when these cases will be in stock. Our best estimate is about 1-2.5 weeks until they are in stock. Otterbox is currently waiting on their container load to be received with these items. So I'm relaxing till I hear more. Techie warehouse informed me today that they prefer to use USPS for the Free Shipping, which works out perfectly for me. USPS delivers 6 days a week vs 5 days a week for UPS and Fed Ex. So far I'm happy...

Just received the Otter box commuter case and less than what I expected. The Good 1. It fits the phone firmly and securely 2. Covers the ports for dust prevention on the top and bottom 3. Looks like its apart of the actual phone body as apposed to separate 4. Sleek design 5. Nice protruding volume rocker and power button control. The Bad1. It has a relatively thin layer of silicon. My Amzer case had way thicker silicon layer for better shock protection. 2. The plastic on the outside feels cheap, although its says its for shock prevention it feels like a egg shell. 3. Even though the power button protrudes its kind of hard to get enough pressure on the power button to turn the device on. 4. I wish the silicone over lapped more at the bottom and sides to prevent dust from slipping in. 5. Provided screen protector was worthless because no matter how I applied it it had like 30 bubbles up and down the screen. The seidio screen protectors I had before this had no such problem and were dry apply... I regret removing it. Bottom line. I don't feel safe dropping this phone anywhere with this case. The designers should have let the engineers take over and provide a more secure case. I wouldn't recommend this product because a 10 dollar Amzer case has more protection. Although the defender case is suppose to be a end all protection for your phone, you'd think the commuter would be a nice mid range case that didn't have the bulk of the defender but may have at least comparable protection of the impact case or even amzer. Although I'm more negative on this product than positive I'm still going to use it until the ballistics case comes out because it looks cool and I don't plan on dropping my phone Side noteI don't usually judge but if you don't know what the little hole at the bottom of your phone is you need to take your phone out and stick a needle right there to prove a point.

I dont think your supposed to drop the phone. I mean I just spent $250.00 on mine, I am treating it carefully. Correct me if I am wrong but I dont think your supposed to really drop any electronic devise. As far as letting the engineers take over and provide a more secure case, I think they are, its called a Defender case, hasnt been released yet. Your comparing apples to oranges, the commuter case was never designed to provide the same level of protection as the defender. Personally I think the case was designed to afford protection against scrapes, perhaps bumps & scratches. What your average person who is a commuter would put the phone trough traveling to and from work or school. Would it be good for a construction worker or a firefighter, umm, probably not. An office worker, student, someone who is careful (generally) with the phone yes, I think it does a great job at what it was designed for. I will be buying a Defender when it comes out but for now it is a lot better than nothing.

If I wanted better than nothing I'd just put the phone in a zip lock bag.

Ok, sounds like you bought the wrong type of case for your particular application. Not the cases fault... Just saying.

I use Otterbox cases for traveling with cigars, that are pretty well padded inside. If I put my Thunderbolt between all layers of foam inside of something like my 15 stick travel humidor...I MIGHT feel comfortable if the box got dropped. The screen occupies a little bit too much real estate on the phone for me to not have a small heart attack if I ever witnessed it falling in a downward direction towards a hard surface. I don't think that there's anything that allows the phone to be usable that will protect it 100%. Best option for maximum protection would be if the phone is kept in a holster when not in use. I'm curious to see what type of holster/beltclip comes with the Defender Case. The one for the iPhone looks pretty sweet...if that's any indication.

The cases sound like the Pelican cases I have used in the past, those things were designed for abuse Yesterday in the mail I took delivery of the Nite-Ize Backbone 20 case, man that thing is Huge when on your belt but has a lot of quality padding (not that it is crush proof though). Yes, waiting though for the Defender as I feel that that will provide the Ultimate protection for the phone. Interestingly enough, I did drop on two occasions my BlackBerry Tour on a tile floor and nothing happened to it that I could ever detect. Just another reason why I have insurance on the phone.

I'm definitely waiting for the defender. My dad has one for his blackberry and her loves it. i really want some decent protection due to the fact im an EMT and im always out and about and im worried that im doing to break my phone somehow when its in my pocket. Thats why i like how the defender case comes with a belt clip!

My son works on construction and has an OTTER BOX DEFENDER on his Blackberry. He has thrown a couple of times the phone against a wall and nothing happened/also phone fell down a couple of times from a 24ft ladder and working like a charm.>> Also a like the clip feature.

I just got my OtterBox commuter case in the mail a few days ago. The case looks great, and the shipping box even had an OtterBox sticker inside (nice suprise!). I was wondering if anyone has tried out the screen protector that comes with the commuter case? I am getting my Thunderbolt this Friday and am getting prepared for my wonderful new phone!! Thanks in advance for the feedback! Thanks everyone for the tips! I got my Thunderbolt yesterday and put it in the commuter case right away to keep it pretty! I am loving the screen protector that came with the case; feels like there's nothing there but glass (thanks Jungle Jack for your feedback!) The only tip I would offer is when I was trying to remove the sticker that says "remove after installing" from the screen protector-- do not use rubbing alchol to get the gummy residue off- it leaves a streak on the screen protector. I've never used a screen protector so I didn't even think about not using alchol before I did it, oops I'm not sure why the sticker is so well attached to the screen protector- oh well, lesson learned. So far the case is great. Good fit, and the covers for the ports are staying in place so far, but I tend to be really careful when handling my phone. It is a bit slippery, but I am planning on getting either the ballistic case or the defernder case down the road. I work outside often and will need to carry the phone in my field bag so I need more protection from the elements than the commuter case offers. Cheers

Yea, you put that on first before putting the case on the phone, prevents scratching the phone's screen, usually a nightmare to put on, make sure your phones screen is spotless before attempting to put the film on and use the squeegee as you apply the film or you will get a million air bubbles.
Take your time before attempting to do it, may want to tape the phone to a counter so the phone doesnt move ans you apply the film and dont touch the film with your fingers as your putting the film on the phones screen.
