I have had the commuter case for 2 weeks now and overall I am not very happy with it. The plastic is very slick and is hard to grip The rubber across the top, near the speaker, is very floppy and collects dust and dirt under it. And recently the rubber across the bottom of the screen will not stay in place ( i keep catching it with my thumb). And of course the bottom port cover is a joke. I do however like the raised buttons for the on/off and volume controls. I guess I just expected more from Otter Box.

I have had the Otterbox Commuter case for about 2 weeks and have been very happy with it. Except for the bottom flap needing to be put in place occasionally, I feel this case has given me the best protection and fit of any of the cases I have tried. If the plastic overlay is correctly placed over the rubber case, it gives the phone a very tight fit and it also looks cool. Of course I will probably switch to the Defender series for better protection like a drop. Until then I am perfectly happy with the Commuter case.

Zimbros, please, please, please tell me that isn't you in the video. "there is a little hole on the side for something. i dunno what that's for" (7:10 in the video) haha! really? sorry, man. that's just too much. btw, i just got the wireless version of the keyboard in the background of the video. the eclypse litetouch. pretty durable for use around the living room, backlit keys, and has a rechargeable battery. freaks out every now and then though. I don't recommend it unless you really really want a backlit keyboard, or need something more durable than the average keyboard. [EDIT] that keyboard has ruined my life. i'm returning it tomorrow. do not buy it. save yourself.

Hello, I too have an Otterbox Commuter Case and must say it is excellent. I really like the Screen Shield and actually prefer it to the Invisible Shield as it seems clearer. This is my first Otterbox Case as I have always used Vaja Cases and before that, Piel Frama.
Piel Frama has Cases available now, but it is way more expensive than the case for my Palm 755 was with it being 75 Dollars whereas my Palm Case was around 40 Dollars.
If Vaja decides to make a case for the Thunderbolt, I will probably order one. The Leather Quality is simply fantastic with the Vaja Cases. However, if the only Vaja Case is a Pouch Style Case, I willl stick with the Commuter. Cheers, JJ

Hello, The Screen Cover that comes with the Commuter is super clear and honestly feels like there is not a cover on it. The same cannot be said of the Invisible Shield which feels almost gummy.
I am quite confident the Invisible Shield would provide more protection in the case of dropping, but with the Commuter having the Silicon Surround and Hard Plastic Exoskeleton it is a non issue.
I really think you would be quite happy with the Commuter Zimbros. I had always used Invisible Shields combined with Vaja Cases, but the Commuter offers a much more cost effective solution and arguably better one.
Another nice thing is that at the Sprint Store, the Associate Applied the Screen Protector for free. This is something Best Buy charges 10 Dollars to do on the Invisible Shield. Cheers, JJ

The Commuter is great but the top part that covers the power is really flimsy and the bottom cover thats covers the hdmi and usb never stays put but still am happy with it. Also has anyone had a problem with the kickstand and commuter? When the kickstand is out it wobbles and looks like most of the balance is on the front corner.
Invisible Shield sucks!! I got it after hearing that its the best for all touch screens but after putting it on, it is very rubbery and not smooth which is very important when on a touch screen. I had some crappy cheap plastic protector before and felt alot better. Also I have to always keep cleaning the shield since I can see my finger prints all over and I cant just wipe it on my shirt like a cheap screen protector. Its too bad. I had high hopes for this after what I paid. Oh well, Ill use the Otterbox screen protector now.

Ordered one of these today. Compared all the cases for thunderbolt on amazon/ebay and so forth and the decision seems pretty much a no brainer. Heard bad reviews on most of the popular cases thus far so the Commuter seems the only viable option as of now.
Video looked great. Protection looked great. Is disappointing that the case is so smooth and the bottom flap doesn't stay closed but really, what else is there? Those crappy cases at best buy or the junky seido cases that people are complaining break? Going with a trusted name. These guys don't make bad cases.

My question is why are you guys so rough on your phones, one simple rubbery silicon case and a Zagg is enough for me, some of you guys must be serial droppers!

No doubt Kassy, I figured the insurance route is for me, I have friends with all the protective covers but I don't dig it, I don't like the idea of my phone resembling a small tank, Thunderbolt is big enough without the added accessories.

I'll have to see Otterbox live in the flesh, the cases I've seen in use have been subpar and unattractive. I'm pretty sure people were using whatever Best Buy was selling. Wish I knew all the model and product info on those wack cases, but hey the sedio that many seem to like is subpar to me to. If I ever drop my phone though and do unexpected damage I'll come back and apologize. Should of got an otterbox when I had the chance! In all honesty though I'm more concerned with theft and loss than I am damage.

i think the thing with getting these cases is that just relying on the insurance, if your phone is damaged then you might loose a lot of info or apps or settings. even if you don't lose any of that, you still gotta re-set up a lot of settings on the replacement phone (or if they hard reset and refurbish your phone, you need to re-do all your settings).
the cases make the insurance route an absolute last resort.
that said, i only have the crappy BodyGlove cover i got at Sprint the day i got the phone, and i have no screen protector. owned Thunderbolt since the Froyo release, dropped it twice, no damage so far except to the BodyGlove cover. I'm waiting until i see the right case before i spend any more money on it. i see too many people regret that one rubbery screen protector that costs like $30, and i don't want that to happen to me.
