If anyone is looking for a strong case, Amazon is selling the Otterbox Defender for $26.99 (was $50) (link)Note that you need to buy from Amazon and not a 3rd party...look on the right side under "more buying choices"

I have seen a few places trying to pull this off the last few days. From everything I can see, people are banking that they release on the 15th of this month. Read into it on amazon, it says usually ships within 1-2 months...saw another site that said "in stock ships on the 15th". Otterbox site still shows coming soon. While I know some companies ship out to other companies first, I just don't think that's the case. I will wait till I know that they are out for sure...

I went to one Sprint store and one Best Buy during lunch. The Sprint store did not have them but the Best Buy did. Sprint had the Commuter but not the Defender. This is the Chicago area, if it makes any difference.

I did get my email too (and a $5 off discount offer) but I am not sure I want to get it now. It comes with a belt clip thingy but I don't want that. I don't like clipping anything to my belt. It looks stupid IMO. I'm sure they are very practical to some people but it's just not my thing. The thing is $50 so I think they are adding the cost of the belt clip. I want something similar but just the case by itself. If they had discounted $10. maybe I would not have hesitated.

I believe you can use the case with or without the clip. I am waiting for mine. I had pre-ordered from Mobile City. By the way, every image of the case I've seen so far does not show the kick stand exposed. Is it covered?

Kick stand is exposed.
The belt clip piece is an optional piece to use or not. It does add another level of protection in itself, but not necessary to use. I will say I am not much of a belt clip fan either. Reminds me to much of the Fanny pack lol. But it is nice and sturdy though so you can put your phone into it in less than ideal situations.

I went to one Sprint store and one Best Buy during lunch. The Sprint store did not have them but the Best Buy did. Sprint had the Commuter but not the Defender. This is the Chicago area, if it makes any difference. Correction...BestBuy did not actually have the Defender either. The guy told me they did but I didn't actually look at it because there were about a dozen people in the the phone holster/case area and it was a zoo. I had to check with my wife to see if she wanted one and she didn't get back to me until a few hours later. So, on my way home I stopped at BestBuy and talked to the same guy. He went straight over to the holster/case area and pulled up a Seidio Defense series case for the Thunderbolt. "That's not an Otterbox!", I said. And he replies "It's really the same thing." So, my wife and I ordered one for each of us online...AND not from BestBuy!

I know using the belt clip is optional, but that's not the point. The point is that if they didn't have the belt clip, the case would be cheaper. The cost of the belt clip has to be added to the total cost. Well, I don't want to pay for something I know I'm not going to use. If they sold it without the belt clip for like $30-40 I'll probably get it. I don't want to pay $50 knowing that I will not use one half or even on third of the product.

The biggest issue I have is even if I get the thing I am still stuck with a battery that lasts only a limited time vs going with the 3500 MAh extended battery which is now the route that I think I am going to go with.
Having to charge the thing 3-4x a day is quickly becoming a pain in the A$$.

We've known the Defender series was going to be $50. You are talking as if the company thought "we need to add something to this case, and charge everyone for it" The company has released 3 levels of protection with the same prices for how long?.. All previous Defender series, no matter the device have been $50 and still are that price for all the ones I just checked. Get the Commuter if you do not want the holster.

Im currently trying to figure out which way I want to order the Defender case lol. I hate spending money and waiting haha.. I've already replaced my screen once, so I figured just to protect myself a little more in the event that the phone is damaged beyond repair I'll get this case. I have issues paying deductibles for used phones =)
Anyone found it in a Sprint store yet? I spoke with Otterbox today and it will only be a few days to a week for delivery, but if I can find it semi-locally.. BestBuy around here is pointless to check..
