Over the years of using bluetooth technology I have heard from people and have read that you can wirelessly use bluetooth to connect your phone to the PC to do a variety of things including transfer files, contacts, etc.

I was able to pair the phone to the PC but I cannot connect the phone to the PC which is the same issue I have had with my blackberry Curve 8330, I am going to guess I need HTC specific software in order to be able to connect via bluetooth.

Does your PC have bluetooth?

of course, or I wouldn't be asking, that's like trying to connect the phone via USB when a computer doesn't have USB (hey at one time laptops/PCs didn't have USB)

Well one never knows. lol I haven't got bluetooth on my fairly new laptop. Didn't think I needed it so I opted not to get it. Now I'm considering buying a bluetooth USB adapter. Found one with good reviews on Amazon, its really tiny, too, and pairs with up to 7 devices.

You got the cirago? I had/have one of those (I can't find it, so I have to assume I have it) yeah its tiny... my wireless mouse has an USB RF receiver the same size as the bluetooth dongle.

I'd like to know what it takes to make the phone work beyond pairing though.

I haven't seen one of those below $20 in a LONG time, not buying it right now but I know where to look now.

When these teeny bluetooth dongles first came out they were a good $20-$40 I got mine when they had a special for $10 I have never seen it near the $10 ballpark until you showed me yours.

I have built in bluetooth, so I have no need for the dongle.

EDIT: I didn't realize you were saying that the one you got was the only one compatible with windows.  Are you saying this is the only one compatible with windows 7? Cuz cirago is compatible with older versions of windows, if it wasn't compatible with windows at all, we might have some serious issues WAYYY too serious because unless its designed for Mac/Linux hardware are usable on most platforms with some exceptions I noted Smiley

Does that work?

not by itself it doesn't, I'm missing services known as OBEX/OBEX OPP in order for it to work (FTP, etc)

Not sure how to get those services on my PC

Here is the work flow to connect your HTC Thunderbolt to your MAC PRO or MAC Book via Bluetooth:

1. Pair your device with your computer
2. With your HTC Thunderbolt device,  go to Wireless & network and make sure Bluetooth is TURNED ON
3. In the same menu, also visit Bluetooth settings > Advanced settings and turn on the FTP Server
4. On your Mac Pro or Mac Book, make sure Bluetooth status is visible in the menu bar
5. Once visible, browse the HTC device.
5. You will be prompted on your HTC device for permissions
6. Enjoy! Smiley
