My Thunderbolt tells my router that it's name is ANDROID_xxxxxxxxANDROID_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and at one point had IPHONE in the name (not kidding, and i didn't put it there!)

Is there any way to change this to something more meaningful?

Yes click on the name under options then switch it. It's rather simple

That does sound simple.  Where do you find these options?  I never saw the name on my phone itself, just on the router.

The only place I've seen the name ON the phone is in bluetooth settings. When you turn on bluetooth, it shows you the name of your phone. If you click on it, you can edit it. I do not know if this has to do with the router thing but phone name is there.  I don't have that problem with my router.

Me too.  And it's a different name than on the router.

I get the same kind of weird name on my router but I'm not sure why it matters.  My guess is that the phone is broadcasting a unique netbios name to the router that won't get any collisions with other phones/devices on public networks.
