dude... you got ripped off... wow... $830?

anyway... i havent seen anyone flashing the Thunderbolt for another network like MetroPCS... I'm sure it can be done, but is not by rooting it... its my reprograming the accual carrier settings by entering in the dialer codes (##code#) and probably you need to get the MSL code to access this area.

Do a search or go to you local flea market, im sure there someone knows a guy that knows someone that does it  Tongue

There are ppl who have flashed to MetroPCS, and Boost Mobile. Check out some other forums as well, like XDA, PPCgeeks, I believe there are some ppl on there who have flashed to those carriers. Here is the link on how to flash to MetroPCS: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=796257

This is great... when I get the Thunderbolt replacement, I can do this and sell it to someone with a metro account that wants the Thunderbolt (my brother-in-law)

As that link clearly points out, an Thunderbolt with an account on MetroPCS is required in order to do what he's instructing. That does nothing to unlock the phone from another provider.

Its a CDMA phone not a GSM phone, so it cant really be unlocked (it can, but for all intents and purposes it wont work and is quite complicated and hard to do seeing as how you will need alot of info from the carrier that more than likely they arent going to give. More than jus the MSL), it can only be flashed to another carrier, so what he wants to do simply isnt possible. If he really wants to do that, he needs to buy a GSM phone.

Friends,

I am PC "A-hole" so I need help here. I've just receive an Thunderbolt tied up with Sprint. Problem is, I bought it here in BRAZIL. The phone was supposed to be unlocked but its not. I use Mac but I've installed virtualization soft to help with this issue. Now how do I unlock this goshdarned phone so that I may really use in another network provider? BTW is there any way to make this phone work on iDEN networks, despite the fact that it says it won't work, on the back cover of the box...
I really need some PRO advice and I thank you all in advance. Right now I have a useless brick (can only access wireless network). Strange is that the phone shows signal strength and it seams to be looking for the Sprint local network but once I tried to use it, it says "NETWORK BUSY". PLEASE PLEASE, HELPPPPPPP!!!!!

No there isnt, iDEN is a completely different technology, which is why there are Sprint phones and Nextel phones. Sprint sells both, but they work on different towers/networks. Its like trying to make a CDMA phone work on a GSM tower (Sprint or Verizon phone work on AT&T or T-Mobile tower), its just not happening.

There is an underground for unlocking phones, especially in other countries so maybe if he waits, he may meet a guy who knows a guy too. But like someone else pointed out, this phone doesn't use simm cards so unlocking probably is not an option.

Oh, and that guy who sold you the phone? In his profile he lists way too many accomplishments but all he says is that they are in "corporate and freelance situations." That can be just about anything. His education is only a bachelors in Business Management. That doesn't mean you area tech geek, but it probably gets you an entry job in the mail room. LOL!!!

He ripped you off.

1. True, a cdma phone can be unlocked, with ALOT of work (more than its really worth), but it still wont work on anything but CDMA so he is still SOL.

2. Yes he did.
