Does anyone know how to rip a bluray disc into mp4 or any playable format on the phone? I'm starting to build a bluray collection and some movies dont come with the "dvd" freebie... I havent been able to figure it out yet but it looks as if handbrake should handle it...

Khassy, first of all, Happy Thanksgiving to you and the whole forum.

In a previous post you said Format Factory was something you were using. Is it decrypting the dvds with security protection?

I'm having problems getting the video to play correctly on my Thunderbolt.. The video and the audio are ver choppy, and the frames over lap each other. The media player on the Thunderbolt and handbrake says the movie is 2 hours and 16 mins long when it's only an hour and 20 mins.

Edit: I went back to the "Title" section and selected the correct time length. Odd.  Converting again to see if this makes a difference.

Edit #2 Still didn't make a difference. Used DVD Decrypter to rip it, and Handbrake to convert...

Sorry about your problem Bass. I couldn't tell you what's wrong because I haven't tried ripping a dvd yet. It's something I am not familiar with yet.

On the other hand, I bought some Doctor Who episodes on iTunes, and also a couple of music videos. The music videos were converted with no hitch, however Format Factory could not convert the Doctor Who episodes. I am not sure if those have a different level of protection or maybe because they are British and may use a different crazy format or something.

Sin,

I've used your detailed instruction steps successfully at least half a dozen times. I can't thank you enough. Soooooo with that said I need to see if I can go to the well once more??

My challenge is that I'm having trouble properly converting a movie that has subtitles.  There's a "subtitle" tab in handbrake next to the video tab you speak of in detail, but you never touched on that setting.  Up to this point I've been able to successfully convert the dvd into an mp4 file on my Thunderbolt...it's just the subtitles aren't there like they are on the original dvd.  Any advice??  Undecided

Thanks,

Joe

This helped me convert any Xvid, Divx or Mkv movie video I had with Handbrake. It won't work for some youtube vids but it only took 10 mins on a i7 to convert a 140min film (Jackass 3d).

Thanks for the instructions.  Your post led me to HTCThunderbolt4G.com!  I followed your setup and it works great except for a few old DVDs I have.  To get them to work I left Keep Aspect Ration on.  Set the W&H to 640x480 then set the Crop to Custom and all values to 0.  Again this was only necessary for a few very old DVDs.

I found a Batch Encoder for Handrake at AddictiveTips:

I used it to convert a whole Season of Doctor Who it worked great!
