Nice. Did you just follow the original root post on XDA? I really want to try but I have gotten used to Amon_ra recovery an I am not sure about CWR..... does it work the same way, for wiping and flashing ?

Yea, i used the regular xda one(unlock bootloader + permroot 3/19/2011) that jcase wrote up, not the one click. It was about an hour and 15 minutes but worth it. Its the same that you would be used too but with some extra features and add it with the rom manager app, there is so much more to do and alot of options.
I like amon alot and felt the same way but it is similar, familiar and advanced all in a pleasent way...

great. Any undocumented snags along the process that i should look out for, or any tips you think should have been added or is it pretty straight forward?

Actually greg, had no issues. Just follow and read what it says at each step and you will be fine.
I would say, dont put any files on the phones memory card until the step asks you too.
Once you get to a step to put a file on, you can switch to hard drive mode, put the files on, then switch back to charge mode only. Once you switch back disconeect the usb from the pc for a few seconds and then put back and continue right on with the setps.

Have you noticed when you charge the phone when its off, the CWM recovery is on the screen. is that a bug? any workaround your aware of? or is it just no big deal and the phone charges fine?

Some say its a bug but Jcase says thats the way it is for now due to the way the phone files are. A workaround that i found is:
with phone on and not charging, enable fastboot then reboot the phone with the restart option. once restarted, reboot phone with the power off option and make sure it fast boots.
now anytime you choose power off option you can charge phone with it off and no recovery shows up...
