Rooting the phone removes the need for VZW to handle updated and allows you to have total controll of the look and feel of your phone. If you want to remove bload ware such as CityID or Blockbuster you can. Ypu can also speed up the processor. Example stock it is 1gz, mine is running stable at 1.4gz. The main thing is that it lets you install custom ROMS, such as DAS BAMF. These roms replace the stock and have tweaks in them that will extend battery life and allow you to further customize your phone. If you look at the screen shot of my lock screen that I am attaching as well as my home screen you can see that I have modifyed it to my liking. These mods are not hard and really make your phone reflect your wants and needs. For instructions on how to root the phone check out this link:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=996616

For a one click solution with out the need for text commands you could try this:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1009969&highlight=one+click

I have never tried the one click option because it was not available at the time I rooted about two months ago.  Check out XDA for questions almost everything that you could need is on that forum. Also feel free to message me with issues and I will try to help in any I can.

They just had me do a factory reset and I was pretty skeptical. The lady at Verizon (at least a tier 2 tech for what that's worth) said the problem isn't with the content of the update but with the phone not taking the update properly and the reset would clear that. She said that whenever she gets any update she factory resets her phone afterward. I did it and have been waiting for it to fail but so far it hasn't. So maybe that's legit. I went from several reboots to none. It's been not quite 48 hours.

I have been telling people to do that and some do and all works out well. They others think its just a line that is used for the hell of it. I believe that when there is an issue and all attempts to fix it dont work, factory reset uses does the trick....

Mine rebooted this morning (first time) while on the charger. I'm going to root in a few weeks so I can live with it.

I had a random reboot the other day, no others so far. VZW appears to be working on it though:

I thought that my factory reset fixed the reboots but now I think it was a matter of coincidental timing. Shortly after I did the update I left town which was when I was getting all the reboots. As soon as I got back into town I did the factory reset and no more reboots. This last weekend I went out of town again (to a different place) and while I was there I was experiencing frequent reboots. And when I got back home no more reboots. So I guess my issue isn't fixed, I just don't seem to have it when I'm in the St Louis Area.

Who knows if that helps anyone else but passing it along just in case.

My reboots have increased and I have not left my home area. So here in the Bay Area, it seems to be getting worse. Ugh.

Do you have 4G there? I noticed this last weekend where I was there was only 3G.
