Author Topic: TouchScreen Goes Crazy After I Unlock My Phone  (Read 3667 times)

Hi all - new here. Thanks for the forum.
I have a problem that I am pretty sure that I've had since I got my Thunderbolt in October. I noticed that when I go to unlock my phone (sometimes I have to swipe it a few times to get it to unlock) the screen will just start going crazy like pressing buttons and selecting options without any user intervention.

I have tried a couple of basic things like removing the battery and doing a calibration but that did not help. I am pretty sure that I did a hard reset of the software when I first got the phone in like early November because I figured I hadn't done much with it and I would have no problems losing contacts, etc. I have pretty much just "dealt" with this problem and hoped that by doing updates it would go away. I don't think its related to any apps that I have installed because at one point I uninstalled all of them to see if it would make any difference.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Sadly, I opted out of the insurance for my phone and I dont want to pay like $100 for a replacement and/or repairs. What are some alternatives. I mean, if I HAVE to, I will pay the fee......but I'm here looking for options.

**Let me add that I don't use a lot of apps, but someone told me to use a task killer.  I use "Advanced Task Killer" and it's free.  My thunderbolt is not rooted and I believe it is fully updated at the moment.**

Thanks in advance,

JG

Hi, yes I was told to use a task killer... I used it for a while, no change.  I then decided to uninstall it because I felt it was just gimmicky, still no help.  I'm not offended at all, but yes I did calibrate it on a level surface. Not rooted, maybe I should...lol  At first I thought that I installed a crappy app, but after I took them all out, it was still happening.  One of my problems is that I opted out of the insurance at the time (I think) I ordered the phone online. I hate insurance.. pay pay and never you use it, then do not pay and NEED it!  murphy's law i guess..  so what else can I do? any ideas?

OK... I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and get my Thunderbolt repaired or replaced...it just sucks that I paid so much for a phone and now I'm looking at paying another $100 or so to get it fixed.  My bad for not getting the insurance - lesson learned I guess. I'll post here after I visit a sprint repair shop to let you know what they say - just in case anyone out there is having a similar problem.
Thanks for the replies!

That's very kind of you... But slightly good news... I called Sprint directly at the customer care number - 18882114727 and I was told that I do not have insurance (which I knew) and that I had to go visit a Srpint repair center.  I told them that I don't want to...lol.  so the lady transferred me to the advanced technical support area, direct number is 1 877 735 8405.  The lady there said its against their policy to add insurance to my account after 30 days from the original purchase.  so my only option is to pay the $35 for the "Advance Exchange...something" program and now they are shipping me a replacement phone that should be here by next week.  At that time, when I call to have it activated, I can add insurance, maybe . so $35 for a replacement or $7 per month I am just about at even since I've had the phone for only 4 months... if i would have been paying $7 per month I would have saved myself exactly $7(something like that)....That's a whole meal at Carl's Jr....
hahahaa... thanks for the input Khassy!

I had the same problem and brought it back to verizon, they replaced the handset and all seems to be fine now.

Anyone else having this problem?

By the way, how come I see 7 replies but I only can see the original messages from the OP?

It may be because alot of post & responses were test responses ot placeholders for the site until the phone came out. We don't want people to read some responses (which may not be acurate) and think they were solid answers.

I'm having a similar issue with my thunderbolt - sometimes my phone acts like i'm touching it when i'm not.  also, on the phone pad I can't press the 1 2 or 3 keys (it thinks i'm touching either above or below the numbers).  did a soft reset then a hard reset. still having issues.

For those of you with screen going crazy issues, make sure (if you have one) that the screen protector and/or case you are using is not covering the bottom buttons (home, menu, arrow, etc.) and possible interfering.

Also, you may have to do a factory reset. Menu-settings-privacy-factory reset...
